During your assessment, your counsellor will explore your needs, understand what matters to you and what you expect from counselling, and agree on how we will work together moving forward.
This is also your time to decide if we are right for you. The assessment is normally about 20 minutes and is free.
Counselling is a journey of discovery led by your wants and needs at your own pace. Sessions are led by fully trained counsellors and trauma specialists who will listen to you and help you find ways to deal with your emotional and psychological concerns.
Each therapy package is uniquely designed for you, and we match the approaches to your needs.
It is rare for a client to feel instantly better after one counselling session. Trauma can be like a festering wound that has scabbed over. Just like an infected wound, it hurts and throbs until the infection is cleaned out. If left, the infection spreads.
To clean out a wound, you must pick off the scab and flush out the mess. Only then can the wound heal properly. That process can be uncomfortable.
We believe that scars are beautiful and signify a battle won, a wound healed.
The session is 50 minutes, with the remaining 10 minutes for queries and further booking arrangements.

We require 48 hours' notice to cancel a session to avoid a late cancellation charge.
We understand that circumstances change and emergencies occur. Certain allowances are made at the discretion of your counsellor. We recognise that frontline and force personnel may not be given 48 hours' notice when emergencies occur. In these circumstances, we can contract a reduced notice period.
Ratcliffe Therapeutic Counselling reserves the right to charge in full for missed appointments or those cancelled with less than 48 hours' notice.

Yes. We are flexible on the delivery of your session; however, we ask for as much notice as possible to ensure we have the right setup for the session.
Currently, we can only deliver face-to-face sessions for our clients within Cornwall. However, if you can travel to our main office, you are very welcome to switch to face-to-face sessions. We ask for a minimum of 24 hours' notice to make this change.
